What is
counseling?
There is a myriad of ways
to describe counseling depending on whom you ask. Each of the clinicians we work with has their own unique style of counseling, so you won't find anything formulaic about the counseling process with
us. However, our clinicians hold the following statements in high regard, which unites us in the work with our MOC clients.
- Counseling is a process, not a quick
fix. While the clinicians we work with have tools and resources that can be broadly used with all clients, we firmly believe that counseling is not formulaic and that each client's unique life
experiences shape the methods of counseling we provide.
- Counseling is a relationship. We
believe that the majority of healing and growth in life occurs within the context of an authentic and intentional community.
- We also believe that each of us long
to connect deeply with others from the day we're born. However, most of us don't know what it means to be authentic and intentional in our relationships. Oftentimes, we have a deep desire to connect
with someone else, but don't know how to do it. The counselors that work with MOC hope to provide a confidential context where clients can practice "showing up" and
"being seen" without the risk of rejection and
judgment.
How long are the
sessions?
- Individual sessions are generally
45-50 minutes in length. We do have options for longer individual sessions upon request.
- Group meetings are 1.5 hours in
length.
Do you see
children and adolescents?
We currently only see
adolescents who are 16 years old and older.
How many sessions
will I need?
The number of sessions
you will need depends upon several factors including, but not limited to, the goals of therapy, severity of presenting issues, and your readiness and willingness to participate in the process of
counseling.
